Some local haunts

Haunted Hawthorne

This 10-minute walk-through maze at 827 Hawthorne St. in Cloquet returns for another year.

There’s candy at the end and you can buy a $5 raffle ticket to win a T-shirt. It’s free, and donations are accepted. Do the haunt 7-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through the end of the month.

Carlton mazes

• The Ru-Ridge Corn Maze is open Thursday-Sunday through Halloween at 1781 County Road 1, Carlton.

• The neighboring Haunted Shack and Haunted Ridge is open the nights of Oct. 15-16, Oct. 21-24 and Oct. 28-30. Hours are 7-9 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays and 7-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Nighttime tickets: $15 per person. A $10 Kids Days/Faint of Heart (a less scary version) runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 23.

Bringing a nonperishable food item saves $2 off the admission price. A coat for the coat drive will net a $5 discount. Go to hauntedshack.com for details and visit hauntedshack.com/hauntedRidge for other activities or visit the Facebook pages for Haunted Shack, Ru-Ridge Corn Maze and Haunted Ridge.

Volunteers are still needed. Contact Pat Stojevich at 218-348-1561. Volunteers can raise money for their charitable group.

Downtown treats

Carlton’s downtown businesses welcome trick-or-treaters from 1-3 p.m. on Halloween. Look for scarecrows throughout the district as well.

Farther afield

The region has a host of scary events and Halloween-themed kids events. The venerable William A. Irvin haunted ship in Duluth is also back this year after a four-year hiatus. Details and times are readily available using an online search.
