Katherine R. Axtell, 87, of Cloquet, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. She was born May 14, 1934, in Superior, the daughter of Joseph and Theresa (Hudacek) Pensak. Katherine was raised in Brookston. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet and enjoyed embroidering, gardening, flowers, shopping, country music and John Wayne movies. Most especially, Katherine loved her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and decorating for the holidays.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guy Axtell; daughter, Linda Axtell; son-in-law, Paul Wefelmeyer; and significant other, Herb Thiesen. She is survived by her four daughters, Nancy Hendrickson, Connie (Ron) Parks, Penny (Terry) DeMenge, and Mary (Mark) Lindholm; one brother, Jim (Ethel) Pensak; nine grandchildren, Angela, Candi, Pascha, Nathaniel, Guy, Heather, Chad, Alyse, and Sierra; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, with a luncheon. Inurnment service will follow at the New Holy Family Cemetery. See the family online guestbook at http://www.nelsonfuneralcare.net.
