Roy Arthur Charon, 88, of Cloquet, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, in Mesa, Arizona after a 14-month battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 10, 1932, the youngest of 10, to Azim and Aurile Charon.

He graduated from Cloquet High School in 1952, then enlisted and served honorably for four years in the Air Force.

After the military, he attended the University of Minnesota for one year and served on the Cloquet police department for two years. He then found his true passion and opened and owned Roy's Choice Meats until retiring in 1992.

Roy married the love of his life, Diane Luke, on Oct. 15, 1960. They spent 61 wonderful years making many fond memories and had three beautiful children.

Roy began every morning on a happy note, and he had a stellar personality and an infectious sense of humor that will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bill, Bert, Leo, Louie, Fred and Richard; and sisters, Aurile, Lucille, and Eleanor. He is survived by his beloved wife Diane; sons Paul (Caroline) and Kevin (Sue); daughter Michelle (Pat); grandsons Ryan (MJ), Adam (Claire), Tyler, Alex (Anja), and Caleb; his favorite and only granddaughter, Delaney; one step-granddaughter, Kate (Dave); nine great-grandchildren with blessing No. 10 arriving in April 2022; numerous nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends from here and in Mesa, where they enjoyed spending the past 20 winters.

Roy was a member of Queen of Peace Parish, served on the Members Cooperative Credit Union board, and Big Lake Improvement Association board. He was active in Golden K, a member of the VFW, Eagles, and Legion clubs.

He enjoyed golfing, biking and time spent on his swing. Most of all, he loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They all brought him great pride and happiness.

A celebration of Roy's life will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 6 until the 11 a.m. funeral mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
