The annual Giving Thanks Feast could not be held this year due to the pandemic, so Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College staff brought Thanksgiving to them by creating Thanksgiving food bundles.
Through a partnership with B&B Market of Cloquet, the food bundles were assembled into convenient packages for contactless pickup Friday, Nov. 19. Each food bundle included a turkey, one box of stuffing, pumpkin pie and whipped cream, vegetables, potatoes, cranberries, rolls and butter. Roughly 70 current students registered to receive a Thanksgiving food bundle from FDLTCC faculty and staff.
“Covid has been tough for everyone and while classes have been on campus this semester, it is still impacting the activities and events we are able to do on campus while keeping everyone safe,” said Ariel Johnson, Seek to Learn Academy director. “Although we haven’t been able to do the Giving Thanks Feast for two years now, we have been fortunate enough to be able to support our students and their families by providing an entire meal, complete with a pie, to help address potential food insecurity for our students and to bring some joy to our students. It’s a great way for our faculty, staff, and student workers to reconnect and support students.”
The Thanksgiving food bundles were made possible by Covid-19 Relief Funding in order to support students with food insecurity.
