A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
Here’s a heartwarming story to start off the new year. Brandon Gresczyk was out fishing with his boys on Woodbury Lake when they saw an injured swan. His wife and a son followed its tracks to the bridge on the Tamarack River, where there was open water. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said it couldn’t do anything for the swan, so Brandon posted on Facebook and an amazing volunteer came from Minneapolis and rescued the swan. It had a broken wing and is now going to an animal rehab facility. The Gresczyk family is glad that the swan doesn’t have to suffer anymore. Good job, Gresczyks.
Our sincere sympathy to the family of Kevin Robert Goranson, 68, of Wright. He passed away on Dec. 24 in hospice at St. Luke’s in Duluth following a stroke. He was born March 25, 1953, to Theodore and Ramona (Pelofski) Goranson. Kevin graduated from Cromwell High School and bought his first farm at age 18. In 1986, he changed careers, working for Northland Contractors of Duluth. Kevin also logged over the years. He was a member of St. John’s Church in Wright. He was a Beseman Township board member for many years. He loved deer hunting, gardening, and feeding deer, birds, stray cats, and fox. The last few years, he wouldn’t even shoot deer, just spending hours enjoying their
company.
No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.
Yoga at the pavilion in Cromwell is expected to resume on Jan. 10.
The New Year’s Eve dance at the pavilion in Cromwell was well attended and folks sure enjoyed the music of the River Hill Rangers.
Residents at the Southview apartments in Cromwell want to give their maintenance man, Mark, a huge shout-out for all his wonderful help over the past years. He is always there when needed, with a friendly and helpful manner. I’m sure the residents at the Cardinal Court and Villa Vista feel the same appreciation.
Ruby’s Pantry will be open 9:30-11 a.m. Jan. 13 at the Cromwell pavilion. No boxes or bags needed. Volunteers will fill boxes and bags and bring them right to your vehicle. Cost is $22 per share.
