Doris Ann Strand, 94, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 in Moose Lake Village in Moose Lake. Doris was born on Sept. 24, 1927 in Cloquet to Octave and Beda Caron. She spent her childhood and youth in the loving care of her aunt and uncle, Sigrid and Gus Bredenberg. Doris graduated from Cloquet High School in 1945. She married Raymond Strand on March 26, 1946. Raymond and Doris moved to the family dairy farm north of town where they raised eight children and farmed for 33 years.
Doris had an artistic soul. Her creativity was evidenced in her baking countless loaves of homemade bread and trays of caramel rolls and chocolate chip cookies. She baked all kinds of pies in search of the elusive perfect crust. Doris was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She was a homebody who also loved to read and complete the daily crossword. She delighted in little children. Her true and lasting legacy is having lived a life of love and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; sons, Mark and Daniel; sister, Irene Kamunen; brothers, Patrick "Sonny" Nelson and Dennis Rydell; and step-grandson, Andy Lamminen.
Doris is survived by and will be deeply missed by her children, sons Thomas (Peggy), Steven (Kay), David (Tracy), and Robin (Cathy), and daughters, Gloria (Ray) Roybal and Julie (Don) Lahti; siblings Carla (Grant) Taylor and David "Bud" Rydell; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Our sweet mother, grandmother and friend is gone. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14 in Maple Grove Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
