Obituary: Bernice "Da Da" Ostoff

Bernice "Da Da" Ostoff, 84, of Cloquet, passed away with peace on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at Augustana Care Health and Rehabilitation in Moose Lake.She was the youngest of 18 siblings, the daughter of George and Sophie Ostoff. Bernice was one of the former owners of Burger Family Shoe Store. She was highly involved in the community, including the Chamber of Commerce and the Fourth of July parade. She was funny, loving, a respected individual, and was a spontaneous, boisterous spitfire! Bernice was a collector of marbles, coins, dolls, jewelry (particularly turquoise), comic books and antiques. She was a sports fan - she loved football, baseball, hockey and basketball, especially watching the Twins, Vikings and the Wild. During her high school years, she was the best center fielder, and lettered. Bernice carried her team to the state championship in softball. She also played on the city league Cloquet Merchants team. Bernice loved to gamble at the casino, and was a hunter and fisherwomen.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, George and Sophie; her 17 siblings; and her best friend, Debbie Rothenberger. She is survived by her three children, Richard Ranum, Guy (Michelle) Card, and Maria (Micheal) Leyrer; four grandchildren, Chris (Marwa) Forest, David Card, Taylor Leyrer, and Ryan Leyrer; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank Senior Friends, especially Sarah, and all the staff at Augustana Care Health and Rehab.

In accordance with Bernice's wishes, there will be a private Celebration of Life with close family and friends at a later date.
