The Minnesota State Patrol reported at least two crashes in Carlton County during Saturday’s windy and snowy weather.
A Ford Escape driven by Superior’s Benjamin Norbie, 26, ran into a plow truck on Interstate 35 near mile marker 230 in Atkinson Township at 1:27 p.m. Saturday. The Sterling plow truck, driven by Jedediah Ninefeldt, was traveling southbound I-35 in the left lane when the Ford Escape collided with the plow truck. Norbie was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the MSP report. Ninefeldt was not injured. Snow and ice were factors, alcohol was not a factor. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office and Carlton Fire and Ambulance also responded.
Later in the day, two cars collided on Highway 73 at Carlton County Road 4 in Eagle Township. According to the MSP report, a Chevy Impala driven by 18-year-old Carter Gran of Kettle River was northbound on Highway 73 and a Chevy Equinox driven by Wright’s Taire Fox, 46, was southbound at 5:55 p.m. Saturday. The Impala went into the oncoming lane on a curve and struck the Equinox. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Again, snow and ice on the road was a factor, alcohol was not a factor. Both were wearing seatbelts.
