There's a carton problem at Wrenshall egg farm

Due to labor shortages and supply chain issues, Locally Laid Egg Company in Wrenshall has been unable to secure a steady stream of egg cartons. But it's not from a lack of trying.

"I've been on the phone, on the road, talking with suppliers, setting up plan Bs, Cs and Ds," said owner Jason Amundsen. "We've been getting by that way for a while, but on Friday (Feb. 11) it all just fell apart."

Supply chain issues across the country have come to roost in Wrenshall.

"It's frustrating to have the product, but not have the means to get it out into the world," Amundsen said.

To help Locally Laid make orders, the company is asking customers to return Locally Laid cartons at the Duluth Whole Foods Co-op locations. For locals, they can be dropped at the farm as well. Look for a bin.

"This is an extraordinary thing the Whole Foods Co-op is doing for us. It shows how invested they are in the community," Amundsen said.

The company is also attempting to secure a Twin Cities area drop-off location.
