There will be a spaghetti dinner benefit for Vicki Homstad 4-7 p.m. March 5 at the VFW in Cloquet. Vicki was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease and is now on dialysis and is awaiting a transplant. There will also be a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.

Our elementary kids have been utilizing the generous donations of gloves and mittens that have been supplied for them but we are running low. We will graciously appreciate your help in sending back mittens and gloves to school with your children or donating some if you have any extras.

The Cromwell Area Young Old Timers will meet for the first time this year at noon Tuesday, March 8 at the Cromwell Park pavilion. The officers will be supplying the lunch this month and then members can sign up to serve in the following months. YOT meets on the second Tuesday of the month and new members are always welcome to join them.

Cromwell Area Community Club would like community members to attend the next meeting. New members are always welcome, and dues are only $10 a year. Feel free to come sit in on a meeting and then decide. The next meeting is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 at the pavilion.

Ruby’s Pantry will be at the pavilion 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10.

Beanie Randa asked me to announce that there will be $3 bag days at the Clothing Depot in Cromwell on the first three days of the month and there will also be a sweater/hoodie giveaway for the month of March. Limit three per customer per visit.

The Carlton County Historical Society will host its 16th annual mojakka cook-off 12-4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at the Historic NorthEastern Hotel on Dunlap Island in Cloquet. Come and taste the delights. Entry forms can be picked up at the NorthEastern, or call 218-879-9968, 218-879-3312 or 218-393-0657. There is no fee to enter. There is a fee to taste the entries.

The Tri-Community Food Shelf will once again be participating in the Minnesota FoodShare March campaign. This year’s campaign runs through April 10. This is the largest food and funds drive in the state. Money raised locally stays in the community. In 2021 nearly 23.5 tons of food and necessities went out to friends and neighbors in need, providing more than 37,000 meals. The food shelf served an average of 47 families per month.

Hours are every Friday 3-5:30 p.m., weather permitting. With the pandemic in mind, we’re aware that many of you have already donated to us without being asked. We are truly grateful for that and understand if you don’t donate again at this time. It is a great time of year to restock our local food shelf. Our belated sympathies to the family of Armas John Laine, 87, of Wyoming, Minnesota, formerly of Cloquet, who passed away Nov. 23.
