Obituary: Elvina Clara Soukkala

Elvina Clara Soukkala, 93, of Sawyer passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Villa Vista in Cromwell. She was born in Wright on Jan. 5, 1929, to Joseph and Tillie Solomon. On Feb. 23, 1952, Elvina married Wilbert Soukkala in Carlton.

Elvina worked as a waitress in several area restaurants and farmed with her husband in Sawyer Township, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Sawyer Cemetery Association and the Cromwell United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed quilting and being a mom, grandma and great-grandma. Her family was her life and we in turn revolved around her.

Elvina was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert; son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Judy; daughter Lu Olean; infant grandson Kesty; brother Joe Solomon; and sisters Tillie Maruska, Elsie Korpela, Katherine Soukkala and Judy Poukka.

She will be deeply missed by her sons Duane (Dawn) of Cromwell and Allan (Barb) of Sawyer; daughter Renee (Ed) Kesty of Cloquet; son-in-law, Steve Olean of Carlton; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Dollie Niemi of Cromwell, Francis Williams of Florida, and Bonnie Potter of Texas; brothers Ken Solomon and Glenn (Fran) Solomon, both of Cromwell; many nieces, nephews and friends; and godchild Wade Potter of Florida.

The family would like to thank Senior Friends from Larson Commons in Cloquet, the staff at Villa Vista in Cromwell and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care they gave to Elvina.

Visitation: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 20 at Atkins Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be in Sawyer Cemetery at a later date. A video of the service will be available on the funeral home website following the service.
