A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
The County Seat Theater Company will present what general manager Joel Soukkala calls a "diva-licious farce" beginning Thursday, April 14, after a Covid-19 case pushed the debut back from the planned opening today.
"Suite Surrender" is set in 1942 with two of Hollywood's biggest actresses (portrayed by Mimi Effinger and Etta Souter) descending upon the luxurious Palm Beach Royale Hotel with assistants, luggage, and a legendary feud with one another in tow. Everything seems to be in order for their wartime performance until they are somehow assigned to the same suite.
It creates a romp of mistaken identities, overblown egos, double entendres, and a lap dog named Mr. Boodles in a classic farce style popular in the 1930s and 1940s.
"If you are ready for a good laugh, this is the show for you," Soukkala said.
The County Seat Theater Company will have performances at 7 p.m. April 14-16. There is a 2 p.m. show April 16. Tickets for performances can be reserved by calling the box office at 218-878-0071 or online at countyseattheater.com. A makeup weekend for the missed performances has yet to be scheduled, as the Encore! Performing Arts Center in Cloquet has a full slate of performances this month.
In conjunction with the performance, there will be an art show in the gallery with pieces from local artists, including work by Susan (Binczak) Krochalk with acrylic paint.
"The call for art, here at the Encore, that can be tied into the themes of the theater productions inspires me to experiment with different styles and techniques in bringing forth something personally meaningful and hopefully thought provoking for the viewers," Krochalk said.
Visitors can enjoy the artwork during any of the performances or stop in during theater hours.
Also playing at Encore
