Firewise workshop April 26

The Carlton Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a new workshop in its efforts to protect property owners from forest fires.

The “Learn to Become Firewise” program will take place 6:30 to 8 p.m. on April 26 at the Cloquet Public Library.

The Firewise program addresses the risk of wildland fires to homes in wildland and urban areas. As more homes are built in the woods and fields of Minnesota, the current firefighting resources are less able to protect everyone's property while trying to control wildfires. Homes close to evergreens and the tall grasses of prairies or marshes are most at risk. Making homesteads able to survive a wildfire is the goal of the Firewise program.

The conservation district employs a Firewise evaluation that can reduce wildfire risks. At the end of the free workshop, participants will be given the opportunity to sign up for an evaluation.

Registration is required and will be capped at 45 people due to space availability at the library. There are a number of ways to register: The Firewise page on the district website, http://www.carltonswcd.org; email Sam Horner at [email protected]; or call Sam at 218-384-3891.
