I attended the Beehive Community Club’s pancake breakfast April 24. They served a delicious breakfast of cakes, eggs and sausages. The Beehive (formerly known as the Beehive Farmers Club) was organized in December 1948. The Beehive school district was closed in 1939 when it consolidated with the Barnum school district.

In March 1950 the club decided to buy the schoolhouse, and the industrious members paid off the mortgage in July 1950. Many events are held there over the years, including pancake breakfasts, mojakka suppers, bingo, wedding and funeral receptions, and Hard Time Dinners.

To my surprise, there was a large painting of the Northwoods, including birch trees, on the wall. As I took a closer look, I discovered it was painted by my mom, Katharine Dahlman. As you can imagine, I was thrilled to see one of her works that I didn’t even know existed. Rest in peace, Mom.

Reminder, there is a prescription drug collection event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at the fire hall in Cromwell. It’s a great way to dispose of prescription drugs locally in a safe way. You may dispose of medication in its original container, or remove the medication from its container and dispose of it directly into the receptacle. Removing any identifying information from the label is encouraged. Liquid products should be sealed to prevent leakage. Injectables and syringes will not be accepted due to a potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.

The Cromwell Area Community Club invites everyone to its Cinco de Mayo celebration Thursday, May 5 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. We will have refreshments and Mexican hors d’oeuvres. The fun starts at 5 p.m. and goes until 7 p.m. Bring a friend. We will be giving a little description of what the club is all about. No obligation. Dues are only $10 a year. Maybe you just want to volunteer your time during one of our events — come check it out and see what we have planned for the rest of the year.

That’s all the news from The Edge of Wright.
