Fire destroys Barnum home

A fire Saturday night destroyed a Barnum home and garage Friday night.

According to a news release from the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, Carlton County dispatch got a call reporting a garage fire at 8:38 p.m. Friday, May 14 on the 3700 block of Hilltop View Road in Barnum Township. Upon responding, deputies learned that a vehicle had caught on fire while inside the attached garage.

The fire spread from the garage to the house. Although it was eventually contained, the garage and the home were a total loss. There were no injuries and all occupants of the house made it out safely. The cause of the fire is being investigated but is not considered suspicious.

The Barnum fire department responded to the fire and was assisted by the Blackhoof, Carlton, Mahtowa and Moose Lake fire departments.
