A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
Hey, as I get ready to send this week’s news, the date is 7-11-22, so let’s hope it’s a lucky day and week.
Our sincere sympathies to the family of Bethlehem and Bethany Lutheran’s former pastor Edward Nieman, who passed away July 4, 2022. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12 at Faith Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids. Send cards to the Nieman family at 13859 Quinn St. NW, Andover MN 55304-3944.
So many friends and relatives were able to attend Arnie Kahara’s burial service at Lakeside Cemetery on July 1. The service was followed by a luncheon at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with so many wonderful conversations with his family, friends and classmates.
Many friends and relatives were able to attend a beautiful memorial service for Mike Davis on July 10 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. The special speaker was his best friend, Jon Sloan. It is always great to reconnect with so many folks even if it is at a sad occasion. Mike’s family was really proud of him, and it showed!
My husband, Bob, is now in hospice at home. He is bed-bound but has lots of helpers coming to help care for him. Our sons are also around to help when needed and we are thankful for our neighbors who have volunteered to help and bring food from time to time. Visitors are also welcome, so try to stop in.
Cake and coffee will be served in honor of Sulo and Delores Walli’s 70th anniversary following the 10:30 worship service Sunday, July 17 at Bethany Lutheran in Cromwell. Send cards to 1309 14th St. Apt 318, Cloquet MN 55720 or call 218-357-2722.
Wrong Days will be July 15-17 this year and there is a full schedule of events on Page 20 of this week’s Pine Knot News. Buttons and $2 raffle tickets are available at the Co-op and Kalli’s Place. This year’s buttons were made by Mike Davis. Since he has passed away, this will be the last button he designed.
There will be a $3 bag sale at the Clothing Depot in Cromwell in honor of Wrong Days in Wright on Saturday, July 16. The folks there request that shoppers wear masks because there is a lot of Covid in the area.
Ann Markusen is working on holding our Cromwell Area Sings event during Wrong Days because the Harvest Fest is too late for the statewide contest. It worked well last year to hold it in the Big Top at Wright. She will confirm when the event is set up. We’d really like you to join us for this event. It’s fun! And, if you know of anyone — youth or adult — who would like to participate, please have them contact Ann at [email protected] or 218-428-3300.
After more than 30 years in the teaching profession, Lori Wester has retired. There will be a retirement party for her 1-4 p.m. July 31 at the Star Club near Kettle River. Please pass this on to your friends and former students and give Lori a great party!
Vacation Bible School will be at Bethany July 31-Aug. 2 this year. Call the church at 218-644-3640 or stop by the church to register.
Have a great week. That’s all the news from The Edge of Wright.
