Obituary: Lillie "Lil" Mae LaVoy

Lillie “Lil” Mae LaVoy, 81, of Cloquet passed away Monday, July 11, 2022 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth. Lil was born in Detroit Lakes on April 9, 1941, to Carl and Annabelle (Collins) Bergstrom. She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1959. Lil married Jack LaVoy on Aug. 24, 1990, in Cloquet. Lil worked in Crow Wing, Olmsted and Carlton counties for 30 years as an eligibility specialist before retiring. She enjoyed working and serving at the VFW and was also the district, state and auxiliary president and district treasurer and treasurer of VFW Auxiliary 3979. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack LaVoy; stepson, Patrick LaVoy; daughter-in-law Nancy Lavoy; grandsons Troy Lavoy and Marvin Friedrich; brothers Henry Gebhard and Mike Gebhard; nephews Mike Fredrickson, Norman Fredrickson and Tony Gebhard. Lil is survived by her daughters Brenda (Pete) Giffen of Wrenshall, Shelly (Justin Powers) Carter of Duluth and Wendy (John) Knutson of Duluth; stepson, Jack (Nancy) LaVoy of Pike Lake; stepdaughters Connie Morris of Medford, Oregon, Annette (Steven) White of Walker and Linda Lavoy of Cloquet; sisters Mildred Burnelle and Edna Gakin, both of Brainerd; brother Tony Gebhard of Little Falls; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Visitation: 12 p.m. until the 1 p.m. celebration of life Thursday, July 21 in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet.
