Rex Wood, 61, of Cloquet passed away surrounded by his loving family Sunday, July 31, 2022. Rex was born Sept. 14, 1960, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Ross and Phyllis (Merfeld) Wood. His early years were spent in Sumner, Iowa. On Aug. 2, 1980 in Cedar Falls, Iowa Rex married Rebecca Olson. They had four children, Ryan, Amanda, Andrea, and Rhianna.
Rex worked in construction as a carpenter, building bridges as a scaffolder, and in concrete construction. Later he became a millwright, switching from the carpenters union to Millwright Local 1348 in Virginia, Minnesota. Rex enjoyed fishing and spending time with his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross Wood Jr. and Phyllis Merfeld; son Ryan Wood; and brother Leslie Wood.
Rex is survived by his wife, Rebecca, of Cloquet; daughters, Amanda (Daniel) Linder of Minneapolis, Andrea (Matthew) Piirainen of Esko and Rhianna (Sean) McDonald of Superior, Wisconsin; sister, Linda McMahon of Sumner; and brother Larry (Kris) Wood of Sumner. Rex enjoyed spending time with his nine grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Aug. 6, in United Methodist Church, 115 Pleasant St. in Sumner. A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, County Highway T76 in Nashua. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet.
