Wright/Cromwell news

Recently, I spent four hours going through and organizing all the Cromwell-Wright yearbooks (formerly known as “The Cromwellian”) I have collected over the years. To my surprise, I have four file boxes of duplicate yearbooks. Since I do have every one of the yearbooks starting with the 1925 issue, I am wondering if there is anyone reading this who would like to have any of these duplicates? I don’t have duplicates of every year, but I may have the one(s) you may want. It was fun getting them in order and glancing through them as I worked on this project.

It was great to see Sheldon Larsen, Ray and Alice Gurske, and Shirley Walli at the appreciation gathering for them at the Wright Senior Center Saturday, as they have all been such an integral part of our community. On Sunday, Sheldon’s son, John, had Doug Suhonen read a note of thanks to the Bethlehem congregation. Sheldon and Marion and their family always felt so welcome and appreciated.

Our sympathies to the family of the Rev. Edward Lee Nieman. Ed is survived by his wife, Gayle, daughters, Jenifer (Kyle) Johnson and Rhea (Raul) Garcia, and four grandchildren. Cards can be sent to Gayle Nieman at 13859 Quinn St. NW, Andover MN 55304-3944.

Our sympathies to the family of Janice Marie (Pettit) Rollins, 75, of Connersville, who passed away July 19, 2022. She graduated from Cromwell Wright High School in 1964 and married John Daniel Rollins in 1966 in Wright. Online condolences may be left at millermosterrobbins.com.

Our sympathies to the family of Del Weets, 81, on his unexpected passing July 26, 2022. I got to know Del and Sue through retired teachers and Sue’s Watkins dealership. His visitation and funeral were well attended, and the family did a great job of remembering him as a husband, father, and grandfather.

I am looking for volunteers to take two-hour shifts visiting with folks at the Little Red School at the Carlton County fair Aug. 18- 21. Please call me at 218-357-2385 or 808-366-6582 or email [email protected] if you are willing to help.

Alpha Delta Kappa will be holding a freewill-donation rummage sale during the fair from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18-19 at 3840 County Road 138 in Barnum. ADK supports the Little Red Bookshelf, Tales for Tots, and scholarships at local schools.

We also need a volunteer to help putty the windows at the Little Red School House. Some of the panes are a real pain! If you can help, please let me know or come to the fairgrounds Aug. 16 or 17.

The former employees of Diamond Brands and family are having a reunion potluck picnic at the city park north of the main intersection in Esko at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14. Family members are also welcome to attend.

Harvest Fest is set for Sept. 9-11. I will put the full schedule in next week’s news.

WARNING: Watch out for scams. I got an email appearing to be from someone I know who wanted Amazon gift cards; I called that person, and they didn’t know about it, nor would they ever ask friends for gift cards. I guess one can’t be too careful nowadays.

The book I read with the main characters Atticus, Jem, and Scout is “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. Several folks replied correctly.

That’s all the news from The Edge of Wright. Have a great week, and hope to see you at the fair!
