Obituary: Betty Lou Krueger Batters

Betty Lou Krueger Batters, 99, of Cloquet passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Evergreen Knoll in Cloquet. She was born in Cloquet on June 25, 1923, the daughter of Walter Johnson and Winifred Castor Pease Johnson. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and bingo. Her hands were seldom idle, as she also enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting. She was very creative. Betty Lou was a homemaker and enjoyed her time being with her family and friends, being part of a sewing club and birthday club, and was also a member of the Catholic church in Cloquet.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Samuel Krueger in 1971 and Malcolm Batters in 2009; her parents; and seven brothers and two sisters. Betty Lou is survived by her daughters Dorothy (Tom) Ferguson of Duluth and Tamie Woodward of Cloquet; her son James (Sandy) Krueger of Woodbury; her grandchildren Laura (Dean) Lembke, Carrie Ferguson, Randi (Mark) Nyholm, Samantha (Paul) LeMay, Joanna (Nathan) Helder, Spencer Krueger and Quinn Krueger; her great-grandchildren Joel Lembke, Alexandra and Cole Nyholm, Max and Zak LeMay and Xaria and Torin Helder. Other survivors include Allan Woodward of Cloquet and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Evergreen Knoll and St. Croix Hospice for their wonderful care of Betty Lou.

A private graveside service for immediate family only will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 in New Calvary Cemetery in Cloquet. A reception and lunch for family and friends will follow at 12 p.m. at Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet.
