Margaret Ellen Veilleux, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep Aug. 18, 2022, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was a longtime resident of Wrenshall before moving to Carlton Place Assisted Living in 2020.
Margaret was the fifth of 12 children, born to Hubert and Roverda (Hammitt) Grover on May 17, 1929, in Wrenshall. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Wrenshall. On Sept. 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Clinton “Kissy” Veilleux at The Manse in Carlton. Together, they made their home in Wrenshall on a farm they were proud to have purchased when their children were young. Margaret and Kissy worked together like a well-oiled machine to provide a wonderful atmosphere for their family to grow, learn to work together, and prosper. Margaret was a stay-at-home mom and an amazing mother. She managed the family, gardening, canning, sewing, cooking and baking. She was a gifted seamstress, making all sorts of clothing, holiday outfits and costumes for the kids, as well as square dancing attire for Kissy and herself. Margaret served as a volunteer election judge for the city of Wrenshall for over 25 years and was always active in PTA and school activities for her children and the school community of Wrenshall. Margaret and Kissy were gifted dancers and belonged to several square dance clubs including the Country Travelers of Cloquet and, over 20-plus winters spent in Texas, the Story Book Squares of Mission and the Haags Happy Hoofers of McAllen. She also enjoyed clogging, flower gardening, playing cards, and playing blackjack at the casino. Margaret was deeply committed to her family and leaves behind a legacy of hard work, lots of love for her family and friends, and a memorable sense of humor. Together with Clinton she led their four children to develop a strong work ethic and to be kind by example.
Margaret will be remembered by her children, Maurice (Marilynn Guinn) “Morrie” Veilleux of New Richmond, Wisconsin, Sharon Culliton of Bemidji, Pam (Allan) Grover of Cloquet, and Sandra “Sandy” (Alan) Kozlik of Plymouth; grandchildren, Shannon (John) Schmitt, Derek (Natalie) Grover, Layne (Darren “Buzz”) Weets and Tessa (Phil) Shea; step-granddaughters, Michele (Tim) Alm, Jodi Flanary, and Nicole (Larry) Mattson; great-grandchildren, Nathan Schmitt, Emilee Schmitt, Nicholas Alm, Shelby Alm, Brady Alm, Kiara Flanary, Brandon Flanary, Logan Ellis, Dylan Ellis, Gracelyn Grover, Lincoln Weets, and Maxwell Weets; siblings Eldon (Karen) Grover, Dale (Shirley) Grover, Clifford Grover, Donna Frigon, and Virginia (Robert) Sornsen; and numerous nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Russell and Richard Grover; sisters Ruth Bartch, Maxine Rousu, Janice Grover and Genevieve Thompson; mother-in-law Alma Veilleux; daughter-in-law Pamela Veilleux; and in-laws Avis and Duane Dennie.
