'Inclusion' group forming in Cloquet

Sometimes it helps to just talk about things and that’s what a Duluth-based nonprofit hopes will happen at its free Cloquet Area Inclusion Learning Cohort.

Amber Lewis, Welcoming Community Program coordinator for Northspan Group Inc., said they want to bring people together for a series of seven workshops based around the idea of creating a more inclusive community.

“We have people from a bunch of different backgrounds, generations, lived experiences, and sometimes that creates conflict, or sometimes people don’t feel like they belong,” Lewis said. “This is designed to bring people together to learn about these subjects.”

The workshop schedule follows:

Sept. 19 – Opening workshop, Our Community’s Future

Oct. 17 – Exploring Difference

Nov. 14 – Sharing History

Dec. 19 – Our Vision

Jan. 16 – Our Schools

Feb. 20 – Leading in Equity and Inclusion

March 20 – Celebration Workshop

Northspan is looking for up to 50 people to apply for the cohort, which will meet at 7 p.m. the third Monday of each month at the Cloquet Public Library. Meals are included. Lewis is hoping a diverse group of people — in terms of age, experience, economics, race and other factors — will apply by Sept. 12.
