Shirley May Johnson of Carlton passed away Sept. 10, 2022, at Inter-Faith Care Center, at the age of 95 years, eight months and 15 days. She was born Dec. 26, 1926, to Walter and Evelyn (Darwin) Tamillo in Cloquet. Shirley graduated from Cloquet High School and worked at Diamond Match Company for several years. She was united in marriage to Lyle "Curly" Johnson and together they made their home in Cloquet. They enjoyed playing golf together.
Shirley is survived by her two sisters, Mary Blair of Cave Junction, Oregon, and Emma Rose Amborn of Twig; nephews Greg Tamillo and family, Dean Blair and family, James Amborn, Kenneth Amborn and family, Jay Scheffler, and Alvin, Roy and Gary Aho and their families; and niece Linda Bartling and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curly; her parents; brothers Kenneth Tamillo and Junior Tamillo; sister Irene Scheffler; sister-in-law Iris Aho; brother-in-law James Blair; and nephews David Amborn, James Michael Blair and Don Blair.
Celebration of Life: 12-2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Private family inurnment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Cloquet.
