Diane Lucille Johnson, 79, of Duluth passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She was born on April 7, 1943, to Fred and Mary Sundin in Duluth. She attended Hermantown High School, and married the love of her life, Terrance Johnson, on May 11, 1963.
Diane was a natural caregiver. She retired from the Viewcrest nursing home after providing 30 years of care to others. Diane was happiest spending time with her family and friends and being a mother. In her free time, you would find her baking or cooking while listening to Elvis or other "old" country music. She enjoyed camping and was an avid fan of the Twins and Vikings.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary Sundin; son Terry Johnson; and her brother Richard "Dick" Sundin.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Terrance Johnson; sons Mike (Julie) Johnson and Glen (Barb) Johnson; daughter-in-law Kandy Johnson; brothers Bruce (Julie) Sundin and Bob (Barb) Sundin; sisters Judy Van Leyen, Susan Carlson and Lori Burton; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Viewcrest nursing home staff and St. Luke's emergency room and ICU staff.
A gathering of friends will be held 1-3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Due to construction on 14th Street, please use the temporary entrance off 12th Street. Burial will follow at Solway Cemetery, Munger.
