Letters: Sheriff has proven herself in county

This November, we have important choices to make while completing our ballot. One of our choices is to decide who the sheriff of Carlton County will be. The office of sheriff has many responsibilities in a wide variety of areas within our justice and public safety systems. The sheriff is responsible for operating and maintaining 911 services within the county so our fire, EMS, and law enforcement officers have the ability to communicate while responding to all types of emergencies.

Another facet of the sheriff’s responsibilities includes providing a safe and secure jail to house inmates that are brought there from our various law enforcement partners. Furthermore, the sheriff provides security to our courthouse as well as service of court orders such as orders for protection, harassment/restraining orders, and eviction orders. In addition, the sheriff directs the county emergency management division during all natural and human created disasters such as floods, tornados, and chemical spills.

These duties are in addition to providing high quality law enforcement services to Carlton County residents. The only sheriff candidate on our ballot who has the experience and ability to continue to offer those services is our current sheriff, Sheriff Kelly Lake.
