A ninth-grade student at Barnum High School was among two teenagers killed in a crash last weekend.
Aubrey Tuura, 14, and Kaden Tuura, 19, died in the crash Saturday.
“It’s a tough day,” Superintendent Bill Peel of Barnum Public Schools said Monday. “It’s terrible and shocking, and we have some students that are struggling.”
The school put in place extra counseling support from community providers.
“We’re getting through the day,” the superintendent said.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the teens were southbound in a 2000 Volvo station wagon when the vehicle hit ice on a curve. The driver, Kaden, lost control of the vehicle, which came to rest off of Highway 23 in the east ditch. There was snow and ice on the roadway.
The 911 call came in at 1:13 a.m. Saturday. Neither person was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol was not a factor, the State Patrol said.
