A milestone for Cloquet's Alexa Snesrud marked the peak of a thrilling back-and-forth basketball game Tuesday as the Cloquet girls pulled out a 67-66 win over the Duluth East in Cloquet.
Leading the 'Jacks to the win were Snesrud and Kiley Issendorf, who had 21 and 16 points.
During the game, Snesrud nailed a three-pointer from the right corner late in the game, giving her 1,000 career points.
Issendorf later made the go-ahead basket on a three-pointer to give the 'Jacks a late lead they would never relinquish.
Snesrud, a senior forward, has helped lead her team to a perfect start to the season with a record of 4-0. The 'Jacks have wins over Esko, Hermantown, Princeton and now Duluth East to mark an impressive start to the season.
Against Princeton on Dec. 3, Snesrud scored 29 to go with 12 from Quinn Danielson. Cloquet led 41-18 at the half en route to a 74-52 win.
Last season, Maddie Young hit the 1,000-point mark in January. Other Cloquet girls to score more than 1,000 points are Kassidy Steen in 2016, Allie Wojtysiak in 2018, and Kendra Kelley in 2019.
Cloquet coach Heather Young was well aware before the game Tuesday that Snesrud might hit the mark. She was 18 points away.
"We are hoping she gets it at home tomorrow but we'll see," Young said Monday. "Alexa is not aware of how close she is."
