Congratulations to John Dahlman on having a couple of his “Blue Ice” photographs published in the February-March issue of Lake Superior Magazine. Blue ice results when heavy snow falls and is compressed, and the air bubbles are squeezed out, enlarging the ice crystals. This enlargement is responsible for the ice’s blue color.
Congratulations to Pimpa Gresczyk on passing her U.S. citizenship test. Her citizenship induction will be held later in March.
Lenten services will be held on Wednesdays at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on March 8 and 22, and at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell on March 15 and 29, with soup suppers at 5:45 p.m., and worship at 6:30 p.m. All area folks are welcome to attend.
The next Young Old Timers meeting will be at noon Tuesday, March 14 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. All area seniors 50 and up are welcome to attend. Lunch is served, followed by entertainment and a short business meeting. The Young Old Timers get together once a month to socialize and have fun.
The Cromwell Medical Clinic opened March 6 at its new location at 5568 Clark Ave., Suite 1. Stop in for a look around.
The Arrowhead Bookmobile will be in Cromwell 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, March 14 at the city park on Highway 210. Books can also be obtained by using Mail-a-Book at arrowhead.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/MAB. It no longer stops in Wright.
The little red lending library is still up and running at the Highway 210 clinic building.
Tri-Community Food Shelf in Cromwell will once again be participating in the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign, Feb 27-April 9. All donations will receive a proportionate match, meaning that your donation will go even further.
The Wright Seniors’ St. Patrick’s bingo is 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at the senior center. Cards are 50 cents each, or $1 for three cards. Snacks will be provided.
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church’s ham bingo will start at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. There will be raffle baskets and free popcorn, and lunch will be served. Freewill offering. Bingo cards are 50 cents each per game or $10 for 20 games.
The seniors at Floodwood School recently started a competitive fishing team. They are asking for financial donations to help defray costs. Questions, call 218-491-4229 or email [email protected].
The students at Cromwell-Wright school also have a fishing team and I’m sure they could also use any donations you can share. If you are interested in fishing, this is a great way to encourage our youth to take up the sport.
Countryside Sanitation is taking old appliances and larger items at its McGregor site. If interested in getting rid of those old items, call 218-768-3360.
Anita Bertelsen wrote and said she and her husband, Floyd, had recently moved from Edina to senior living in Oakdale near their son Lyle. Floyd passed away on Jan. 17 while in hospice care at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was 90 years old, a veteran of the Korean War and a retired employee of Qwest. Our sympathies to her family.
