Obituary: Manfred Anton "Manny" Spendler

Manfred Anton "Manny" Spendler of Venice, Florida died unexpectedly at home on Feb. 23, 2023. He was born in Dorsten, Germany to Alfred and Cecelia Spendler. In 1955, at age 17, Manny came to America to visit his aunt Marie in Mahnomen, Minnesota. He loved it here.

In 1957, he joined the U.S. Air Force, and served four years. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Sally Wheaton. They were married in 1964. At the same time, he became a U.S. citizen. They had one son, Troy. Manny worked at Northwest Paper Co. and Northern Natural Gas/Enron until he retired in 2000. They moved to Venice in 2001. Manny loved hunting, fishing, biking, and golf. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor, always a smile and, boy, did he love to talk.

Manny was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Cecelia; his father- and mother-in-law, Chet and Madonna Wheaton; his son, Troy; brother- and sister-in-law Diek and Colleen Gamble; brother-in-law Herbie Ringat; and aunt, Marie Geray.

Manny is survived by his loving wife, Sally; sisters, Cecelia Ringat and Lonnie Poljastic; nephew and niece Tom and Chris Ringat and their girls Sarah and Allison; nephew Steve Ringat and children Jackson, Ani and Kendall; and nephew Charles, and Tara Gamble, and their sons Nicholas and Ben.

A celebration of Manny's life will be held in Cloquet. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cloquet Educational Foundation, 302 14th St., Cloquet MN 55720 or a charity of your choice are preferred.
