Wright/Cromwell news

Many years ago, when I was still teaching fourth grade, I had my students interview elders and write their life stories. One year, a student interviewed Ruth Karki, who lived south of Cromwell. When asked how old she was, she told him that she was as old as Highway 73 “and in better shape.”

So, with that in mind, please attend the Minnesota Highway 73 corridor study open house in person April 12, at 5 p.m. at the Cromwell Pavilion. (It was scheduled for this week, but held only online due to weather.) There will be a formal presentation on possible changes to the Kettle River to Cromwell section followed by a listening session to hear from those who live and commute along Hwy. 73. For more information, contact Josie Olson at 218-221-6209 or [email protected].

The Wright Senior Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month for their business meeting and program, followed by games. New folks are always welcome to attend. They also have cribbage every Thursday evening, starting at 6 p.m.

The Tri-Community Food Shelf in Cromwell is still participating In Minnesota FoodShare’s March Campaign through April 9. All donations to our food shelf will receive a proportionate match, meaning that your donation will go even further.

Good Friday worship services at the Villa Vista/Cardinal Court will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 7. I will be leading worship with music, readings and a message, followed by a lovely brunch. Everyone is invited to attend this event and share in God’s love with the residents, staff, family, and friends.

Hats off to the University of Minnesota Duluth women’s basketball team on its second-place finish in the NCAA championship in Texas last weekend. You sure brought excitement to our community, as one of our own, Taya Hakamaki, is on the team. (See story on Page 1.)

Marilyn Schultz and I motored to Pine River for the Pine River-Backus Schools spring choir concert on March 28. Two of Marilyn’s granddaughters performed in the concert. We had a good time catching up on the ride there and back.

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
