A crash between two cars Friday morning ended with one car upside down after the other driver ran a stop sign.
The Carlton County Sheriff’s office received the report of a two-car motor vehicle crash at the intersection of East Stark and Canosia roads in Thomson Township, north of Esko, just after 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 7.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle driven by Arlyn Shabiash, 34-year-old man from Thomson Township, was eastbound on East Stark Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign. Shabiash’s vehicle struck a vehicle traveling southbound on Canosia Road, driven by Debra Tollefson, a 63-year-old woman from Thomson Township. Both vehicles were occupied by juvenile passengers. Tollefson’s car overturned, coming to rest to the east of the roadway.
The occupants of Shabiash’s vehicle were transported to Essentia Hospital for medical evaluation via ambulance. The occupants of Tollefson’s vehicle were transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle for medical evaluation. The injuries resulting from the crash are not believed to be severe.
The sheriff’s office said alcohol or controlled substances do not appear to be a factor in the crash. Shabiash was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.
