There are a few state road construction projects planned in Carlton County this season, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced this week through its District 1 office in Duluth that covers northeast Minnesota.
The Minnesota Highway 210 project in Cromwell will be finished with sidewalk, turf, striping and sign installations. Four culverts from Cromwell to Interstate 35 on Hwy. 210 will be replaced, a project that was on the docket last year but wasn’t completed.
The I-35 bridge over Carlton County Road 61 in Twin Lakes Township will be rehabilitated from May into October, resulting in the southbound lane crossing over to two-way traffic in the northbound lanes.
Travelers beware
As for getting around in the region, there are several projects to be aware of:
• Several culverts along Minnesota Highway 23 from Fond du Lac and east into Duluth neighborhoods will be replaced, creating detours, bypasses and a temporary stoplight.
• A median crossover will be constructed for future bridge reconstruction along I-35 near Hinckley from August through October, creating some lane closures.
• Crews will clear trees along the I-35 corridor from Duluth to Hinckley.
• Another roundabout will be created along Minnesota Highway 194, this time at its intersection with U.S. Highway 2 near Saginaw. It will create detours, bypasses and lane closures from May to October. A roundabout at Hwy. 194 and U.S. Highway 53 in Hermantown was created last year.
• Bridge work along Minnesota Highway 61 north of Two Harbors will continue at the Silver Creek and the Stewart River bridges, creating lane closures and bypasses on the highway along Lake Superior’s North Shore.
