Obituary: Dan Oman

Don Oman was born in St. Paul on July 29, 1951, to Carl and Gertrude Oman. He was

their second son, and the third of six children.

Don worked for 25 years at American National Bank in downtown St. Paul until going on disability in March of 1996.

Don was a very active volunteer. Both he and his wife served weekly as volunteers at the Gillette Children's hospital for 10 years. Don was on the board of directors of the Friends of Gillette and auxiliary. Don also volunteered for several television telethons and managed different checkpoints for March of Dimes walks in St. Paul. Don and Jean participated in a program Gillette's where they provided a room for parents when their children stayed at the hospital. Don was named volunteer of the year by American National Bank in St. Paul.

In 1996 Don and Jean moved to a home on a small lake near Cromwell. He continued his love of volunteer work at Bethany Church for 15 years, and volunteered at a local school. He

also helped to form the Cromwell Wright Area Lake Association and served as its president for its first few years. Don was recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota as a Champion of Health for his work in forming and directing the Called to Care program in the Cromwell-Wright area.

Don and Jean relocated to Bullhead City, Arizona where he enjoyed volunteering for Community Lutheran Church.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. and Gertrude C. (Nordeen) Oman, and his

sister Janice Strub.

Don is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jean M. (Krekelberg) Oman; his brother, Bill (Diane) of

Roseville; three sisters, Dorothy (Bill) von Lehe of Le Sueur, Carol (Jon) Empanger of

Chaska and Julie (Bruce) Phillips of Eureka, Montana. Donnie was also blessed with 14 nieces

and nephews, 23 great-nieces and great-nephews, and one great-great-niece.

Don was very loved by his friends, family, church family, and wife. He will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Gillette Children's hospital at gillettechildrens.org.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell.
