Letters: Thank you, all of you 'snow people'

Although hopefully we’ll be mowing grass rather than moving snow soon, I thought a group of people — the “snow people” — deserve a standing ovation from all of us. All those people operating snowplows, loaders, blowers, roof rakes and shovels that kept our roads, parking lots, streets, sidewalks and roofs cleared so that life could go on, so everyone could get to where they needed to go.

It is a tough job, always out in the worst of conditions: watching for trash cans, mailboxes, pedestrians, dogs, kids, cars and what other dangers might be out there. They are on roofs melting ice dams and clearing snow. They are making room for everyone to park on the streets, at businesses, schools, churches, hospitals, restaurants and the casino while many people are still in bed.

There are no Oscars for the “snow people” or ticker tape parades. I doubt they would expect that. They just do their job and life goes on … until … well, let’s not think about that now. They will be there again when we need them. Now it’s time for the pothole and mud people to have their turn.
