Manfred Anton "Manny" Spendler of Venice, Florida died unexpectedly at home Feb. 23, 2023. He was born in Dorsten, Germany to Alfred and Cecilla Spendler on March 13, 1938. In 1955, at the age of 17, he came to America to visit his Aunt Marie in Mahnomen, Minnesota. He loved it here. In 1957, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving four years. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Sally Wheaton. They were married in 1964. The same time he became a citizen of the United States. They had one son, Troy. Manny worked at Northwest Paper and Northern Natural Gas-Enron until retiring in 2000. They moved to Venice in 2001.
Manny loved hunting, fishing, biking and golfing. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor, always a smile, and boy, did he love to talk.
Manny was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Cecilla; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chet and Madonna Wheaton; son, Troy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Colleen Gamble; brother-in-law Herbie Ringat; and aunt, Marie Geray.
Manny is survived by his loving wife, Sally; grandson, Sidney; sisters, Lonnie Podgajsek and Cecilla Ringat; nephew and niece Charles and Tara Gamble and their sons, Nicholas and Ben; nephew and niece Tom and Chris Ringat and their daughters, Sarah and Allison; and nephew Steve Ringat and his children, Jackson, Ani, and Kendall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cloquet Educational Foundation (302 14th St., Cloquet MN 55720) or a charity of your choice are preferred.
