Authorities said there were no injuries when a small airplane landed on the northbound lane of Interstate 35 between Barnum and Mahtowa this afternoon (Friday, June 16) around 1 pm.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol incident report, the single-engine aircraft made an emergency landing on the highway around 1 pm and came to rest in the roadside ditch after landing safely. No injuries were reported and there was minor to no damage to the aircraft. No other details were available.
At 3:09 pm, the plane was still in the grassy area off the highway, immediately adjacent to a rest area, and people were working on the plane in preparation to tow it away. Traffic was backed up over a mile, as vehicles could only use one lane of traffic to pass.
State troopers did not allow media on the scene.
