High school seniors Payton Rosbacka of Wright and Amanina Sheetz of Moose Lake have been selected as the Minnesota State Bar Association’s 11th District College Scholarship award recipients for 2023-2024 academic year. They were awarded $2,000 scholarships by the association’s district board of directors.

The 11th District is composed of MSBA members who live or work in Carlton, St. Louis, Lake, and Cook counties. For decades, the 11th District has annually awarded financial aid to high school seniors in our district who are pursuing law-related occupations or undergraduate studies. Applications are not limited to those who want to become attorneys.

Rosbacka is interested in sports law and will be studying business at the University of Minnesota this fall. Sheetz is interested in criminal justice and criminology. She is interested in pursuing an occupation where she can help those experiencing domestic violence. She will be studying at the University of Tampa in Florida.

Lake Country Power awarded $4,000 scholarships to 36 local high school seniors in the region from 29 schools. The scholarships, issued at $1,000 per year for four years, were awarded to these area students: Naomi Poirier of Barnum, Eliza DeCaigny of Carlton, Noah Foster of Cromwell-Wright, and Wyatt Hudspith of Esko.

Dakota Tireman, from Esko, was named to the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s Dean’s List for the 2023 Spring Quarter. Tireman is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Two students from Esko were part of the spring graduating class at the University of Minnesota Crookston in May. They are Keegan Poppenberg, who received a degree in finance; and Kendra Putzke, who received a degree in equine business management.

Sophia Diver of Cloquet was named to the University of Minnesota Morris dean’s list for the spring semester.
