Richard D. Singpiel, 82, of Cloquet passed away June 18, 2023, at Essentia Health in Duluth. Dick was born June 8, 1941, in Cloquet, the son of Francis and Mae (Peterson) Singpiel.
He graduated from Cloquet High School, the University of Minnesota Duluth, and the University of Minnesota. Dick was married to Mavis Pykkonen on Dec. 19, 1964.
He was a teacher for Esko schools for many years, and was the yearbook, school paper and photography group advisor at Esko High School. Dick was a member of the Cloquet Cribbage League, Carlton Area Lions club and board member of the Scheidler Scholarship Foundation. He played poker with his fellow retired Esko teachers, and was an avid reader.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Curt Singpiel; brother, Wayne Singpiel; and a brother-in-law, Myron Perttula.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis; son Scott Singpiel; daughter-in-law, Leigh Singpiel; grandchildren, Cade, Blake and Dane Singpiel; sister, Carol Perttula; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special cat, Mindy.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Saturday, June 24 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, followed by a light lunch in the fellowship room. Inurnment will be at St. Matthews Cemetery in Esko. Memorials to the Scheidler Scholarship Foundation are preferred.
