Ambulance billing suffers breach

Those who have used the services of the Cloquet Area Fire District may have had personal information about them compromised, according to a report from vendor EMS Management and Consultants, Inc. On May 31 and again in June, Progress Software Corp. publicly disclosed that its MOVEit Transfer tool had been compromised. The CAFD’s billing services provider, EMS Management and Consultants, is a user of that tool.

EMS/MC reports that it is unaware of any misuse of information in relation to the breaches but it is providing potentially affected people with steps they may take to help protect their information. EMS/MC is mailing notice letters to users of CAFD services. The types of potentially impacted information for patients may include name, date of transport, social security number, date of birth, encounter/transport number, billing codes and other patient information related to ambulance transport.

EMS/MC said it moved quickly to patch its tool and performed recommended mitigation steps. CAFD users with questions can contact EMS/MC at 833-318-2801, with the reference code B100189.
