Wright/Cromwell news

By the time most of you read this, I will have undergone a mastectomy and hopefully will be on the way to a full recovery. This has been a long journey, but with the help of my friends and family it was much easier. I feel the support from so many, and now it’s on to better days.

Have you noticed that everyone on Center Road has new mailboxes as of August 14? This mailbox replacement was part of the deal when the road was retarred. Sure looks nice and I’m sure it’s much easier for mail delivery.

School will resume for the 2023-2024 school year on Aug. 28. There will also be an open house 1-5 p.m. on Aug. 24. Reminder: if you know of new kids in the area, be sure to invite them to come in and get registered for school.

Bill and Judy Haapoja will be at the Villa Vista at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28. The public is welcome to attend.

The Wright Seniors manned bingo at the Carlton County fair, and other than the one very hot and humid day, they were very successful in their fundraising. It takes a lot of volunteers to make the fair a success, and it’s great to know we have so many willing to help out. I want to especially thank the volunteers who worked at the Little Red School House this year, as I was unable to help this year. Lindsay Lally did a great job of getting volunteers to sign up. Hopefully I’ll be able to help again next year!

The Carlton County Retired Educators and ADK thank Lake Country Power’s Operation Round Up for their generous donation of $500 to buy school supplies for our students who visit the Little Red School House this year.

The Kettle River Conference Women of the ELCA fall gathering will be held Sept. 20, starting at 8:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Requested $10 donation to cover conference expenses. Morning treats will be provided by Zion Lutheran Women of Cloverdale. In-kind gifts will be accepted for the Tri-Community Food Shelf. Myrna Wells Ulland will be with us as a speaker. She is a board member of Peter’s Hope, a nonprofit fund that works to provide education for women and children in Kenya.

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
