Obituary: Daniel Robert Thelen

Daniel Robert Thelen was born on July 6, 1934, to Valentine and Helen (Anderson) Thelen in Orr. He went to school in Barnum. Dan was united in marriage to Nancy Jean Leno on Nov. 26, 1955. Together, they made their home in Atkinson. They later moved to Cloquet. He worked at Conwed Corporation for a short time and then was self-employed owner at many local businesses. Dan enjoyed hunting and fishing in Alaska, Colorado and Mexico. He also enjoyed farming on his family farm. Dan's motto was, "If he can't fix it, it must not be broke." Dan will be remembered for always willing to help others, his quiet demeanor, and always being kind. He was a friend to everyone. Daniel passed away on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. The family would like to thank Inter-Faith Care and the staff at St. Croix Hospice for their wonderful care; they made the transition very comfortable for Dad. Dan is survived by his children, Robert Thelen of Gilbert, Minnesota, Thomas (Gwendolen) Thelen of Carlton, Valerie Thelen of Milton, West Virginia, and Paulla Mclellan, of Gilbert, Arizona; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and other family members.

A visitation for Dan will be held at 10 a.m. until his 12 p.m. funeral service on Monday, Aug. 28 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Interment will be in the New Calvary Cemetery in Cloquet.
