Carlton County had 17 entrants among the 4-H members from across Minnesota who showcased their animals at the Minnesota State Fair. More than 2,562 animals were shown. The best entries from county fairs are brought to presentations in the 4-H Building at the fair.
Here are the results for local 4-H members during the Livestock Weekend.
• Justine Anderson received a blue ribbon and placed sixth in her class with her registered Red Angus junior yearling, and received a green ribbon in senior showmanship.
• Avery Koivisto received a blue and was first in her class with her registered Red Angus junior yearling.
• Tyler Laveau received a blue ribbon and placed fifth in his class with his registered Holstein junior 2-year-old.
• Weston Davidson received a red ribbon in his class with his Holstein fall calf.
• Jessica Klejeski received a blue and placed fourth in her class with her Jersey junior yearling.
• Emalee Nelson was a Reserve Grand Champion in her class with her Alpine senior goat and received a purple in advance showmanship.
• Laura Rubesh received a blue ribbon and placed fourth in her class with her yearling goat.
• Joni Giersdorf-Thompson received a blue ribbon in her class with her junior yearling meat breeding goat and a green ribbon in senior showmanship.
• Ryden Olesiak received a red ribbon with his market chickens.
• Kora Webster received a blue ribbon in her class with her breeding pen of chickens and was a Reserve Grand Champion in advance showmanship.
• Braham Jordan received a blue ribbon with his turkey pen.
• Abigail Vargo received a blue ribbon with her rabbit.
• Mekaila Colt received a blue ribbon with her rabbit.
• Nia Petry received a purple ribbon with her rabbit.
• Maci Soderbloom received a blue ribbon with her rabbit.
• Emily Hacker received a purple ribbon and placed third in her class with her Duroc breeding gilt pig.
• Jackson Hacker received a purple ribbon and placed third in his class with his crossbred breeding gilt pig.
Katie Siltanen, Carlton County Extension educator, said the number of those competing in the state fair increased this year. "This is something we hope to see continue in years to come."
