A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
And just like that, winter moved in.The weather might be turning a little frightful now, but we have plenty for you to do to get through the season, and maybe even enjoy it.
Again this year, we are renting out ice skates, free of charge for whoever might need a pair. You can check them out for the weekend, or for the season. This is a good way to give skating a try, or to be able to provide the right size for your child without breaking the bank.
If you have skates that you no longer use, please consider donating them to our program for others to check out. Many thanks to the city of Cloquet for sharpening them over the summer. If you are interested in renting skates, just stop by our office at the Cloquet Middle School, 2001 Washington Ave., door No. 2.
If you would rather stay inside, check out our swimming programs at the Middle School pool. Family Friday Swims are 6:30-8 p.m. every Friday, limited to the first 50 people to sign up. For adults and seniors, we have morning swim year-round, 6-8 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Aqua Fit is also resuming Nov. 20 and will be held Monday evenings at 6 p.m.
In the gym, we are busy as well. Year-round morning basketball is offered 6-7:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Cloquet Middle School, only $5 a season. New this year is a men’s basketball league at 6 p.m. Thursday evenings at Washington Elementary. This league is limited to six teams, and there will be 10 games.
