Obituary: Donna Mae Smith

Donna Mae Smith, 91, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 18, 2023, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton.

Donna was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Cloquet. She worked at Northwest Paper Company (Sappi now) in the early 1950s. After her marriage to James Smith in 1956, they made their home in Olsonville, west of Carlton.

Donna was a seamstress for 40 years, working from her home. She was an avid polka dancer, never turning down a good dance.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, James; daughter, Cheryl Mattson; parents, Alfred and Edna (Larson) White; and brothers Albert Pete (Marge) White of Carlton, and Robert White of Duluth, Minnesota.

Donna is survived by her son, Dale (Roxann) of Fort Bridger, Wyoming; son-in-law Michael Mattson, Tenino, Washington; grandson Russell Mattson, Centralia, Washington; granddaughter Tiffany Smith of Yelm, Washington; great-grandson James and great-granddaughter Emma; sister Shirley Burton, Bloomington, Minnesota; and brothers James (Mary) White, Farmington, Minnesota and Daniel White, Cloquet.

At Donna's request, there will be no funeral.
