Obituary: Helen Margaret Stiede

Helen Margaret Stiede was born Jan. 26, 1934, to John and Clara (Freiss) Kainz in Waukesha, Wisconsin. She grew up on the family dairy and produce farm. She loved taking her mother to the market and working alongside her nieces and nephews on the farm. Helen graduated from Waukesha High School in 1952. Following graduation, Helen moved around all over the United States raising her children with her husband, Wayne, until she made her home in Cloquet, Minnesota, in 1993. In 2022 Helen moved to Evergreen Knoll Assisted Living in Cloquet.

Helen was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet where she was active singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the V.F.W. Auxiliary of Cloquet. Helen enjoyed volunteering at the library, participating in senior swim, bowling, knitting, being outside shoveling or flower gardening, and taking pictures of her family. Helen passed away on Nov. 21, 2023, at the age of 89 years, at Evergreen Knoll Assisted Living in Cloquet.

The family of Helen would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Knoll and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care they received for their mother.

Helen is survived by her children, Nanette (Dale) Gibson of Springtown, Texas, Roxanne (Bob) Holtz of Cloquet, Thomas (Nancy) Stiede of Naperville, Illinois, Leonard (Pat) Stiede of Fox Lake, Wisconsin, Kathryn Stiede of Hollis, New Hampshire, and James (Dionne) Stiede of Slidell, Louisiana; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Paul) McCarthy; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and six of her siblings.

Per Helen’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. Family inurnment will be held in the spring of 2024 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Arrangements are entrusted to Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.
