Sharon Faye Baker, 85, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Cloquet.
Sharon was born on Feb. 13, 1939, to Alcide and Murel (Stephenson) Lafontaine in Duluth, Minnesota. She was raised in Cloquet, Minnesota, and she spent a lot of time with her sisters throughout her life and the three of them were known as the "snoop sisters." Sharon graduated from Cloquet High school in 1957.
Following graduation, she was united in marriage to Earl Baker in 1957. Together they had five children and made their home in Cloquet. Sharon worked as a teacher's aide and as the head of the concession stand at the Cloquet Ski Club. She was also a stay-at-home mother. Sharon was an avid bowler and golfer and was a member at the Big Lake Golf Course. She was also a member of the Eagles Club in Cloquet. Sharon enjoyed camping with her husband, crafting stained glass, fishing, going to bingo, and going to family get-togethers. She was the "glue that kept the family together." Sharon was a very loving person and will be deeply missed. The family of Sharon would like to thank the entire staff of St. Croix Hospice and Diamond Willow Assisted Living for the excellent care that they provided to Mom.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Earl Baker of Cloquet; children, Joyce (Jerry) Borske of Cloquet, James (Cindy) Baker of Cloquet, Jeff (Patsy) Baker of Mesa, Arizona, Jack (Kanyapat) Baker of Cloquet; and Jerry (Chin Ok) Baker of Houston, Texas; brother, Larry (Kathy) Lafontaine; sister Edna Seboe; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Pat, Joan, and Kathy Lafontaine; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Roger Lafontaine, Brian Lafontaine, Gordon Lafontaine, Alcide "Poopsie" Lafontaine, Jeanne Kortie, Mary Carter, and Murel "Punky" Swanson; and brother-in-law, Jim Seboe.
A memorial visitation for Sharon will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 1, with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. A luncheon will follow the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the New Calvary Cemetery at 2 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.
