Congratulations to Emaleigh Olesiak, AAA Award Subsection 24 winner. The award recognizes her achievements in academics, athletics and the fine arts.

Beanie Randa, manager of the Area Clothing Depot in Cromwell, has asked me to announce that the Depot will be closing sometime in September. The current volunteers are ready to retire and there is no plan to continue. If an individual or group in the community would like to start up a thrift shop like the Depot, they will have to find a new location, as the current building will not be available after the Depot closes. There will be several liquidation sales later this summer, and donations will be limited. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the Depot, please call Beanie at 218-966-4228 or come to the next meeting at

3 p.m. March 21 at the Depot. The Depot opened in Cromwell in 2009, and would have celebrated its 32nd anniversary in November.

The Luminary committee officers — Lindsay Lally, Sharon Houck, Walter Collman and Jennie K. Hanson — met on March 2 and discussed the future for this group. It seems that the best option is to dissolve this committee and donate the remaining funds to area nonprofits. If you are interested in keeping it going, please call any one of these officers. The Luminary committee started in 2009, and held several yearly services to remember our loved ones who passed away. Because of Covid, there weren’t any programs, and now it seems the interest is waning.

Lenten services begin with a soup supper at 5:30 p.m., and worship is at 6:30 p.m. Services at Bethlehem are March 6 and 20, and at Bethany on March 13 and 27.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting at 4:40 p.m. Thursday, March 14 at the Cromwell Pavilion, to discuss the Highway 73 Kettle River-

to-Cromwell corridor study.

Don’t forget that there’s cribbage at 6 p.m. every Thursday at the Wright Senior Center. It’s always a good time.

Ham bingo is at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Cromwell Pavillion. Cost is $10 for 20 games, and there will be raffle drawings, free popcorn, and lunch by freewill offering. It’s sponsored by Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. All are welcome.

Kindergarten roundup is 8:45-10 a.m. March 22 at the Cromwell-Wright School. All children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 and their parents or guardians are invited to come and hear all about our school.

Rodney Allen Niskanen, 75, of Floodwood passed away Feb. 19, in Colorado Springs. Sympathies to his sisters Marlys (Tom) Piontek, Lois Aho, and Kathy (Phillip) Stenson. A celebration of life will be held this summer in Floodwood.

Why does Easter fall on different dates every year? Well, it’s because Easter is always on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox.

The annual Cromwell-Wright fourth-grade food drive to benefit the Tri-Community Food Shelf has started. In 2023, the fourth-graders collected $1906 and six large boxes of nonperishable food items. This year’s goal is $2000. The last day for donations of food or cash is Thursday, March 21.
