I am back from a trip to San Jose, California to visit Curtis and Steven, and my sister’s niece and family. My sister Margaret, and her daughter Tamilee and her husband Craig, and I were there March 14-25. We were a bit concerned about flying back from the San Francisco airport, but all went on schedule. The ride back to Margaret’s went OK since there wasn’t much snow on the roads until we got to the Moose Lake area. From that point, because we know how to drive in Minnesota in the winter, it was good, too.
One reason we wanted to go to California was to visit my brother, Glen, but that didn’t happen since he and family were sick with some kind of flu bug. That didn’t stop us from doing a lot of sightseeing. We walked through a redwood forest, toured the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Filoli mansion and garden. We traveled up and down the Pacific Coast Highway several times, stopping to take in the spectacular views of the ocean and waves.
I even got to make pancakes twice for all of us at Margaret’s niece’s home, where we stayed the whole time. Curtis brought some raspberry jam for the pancakes from Trader Joe’s, and I liked it so much that I bought four jars of it to take home. They were placed in my already full suitcase, so I guess you could say my suitcase was jam-packed. I learned from this trip that you should not stop traveling just because you get older. There are always folks to help you along the way and you would miss out on a lot by staying home.
Friday, when I was going to the oral surgeon in Duluth, I saw the new Minnesota flag flying for the first time on a flagpole. It sure is plain, and most folks are not too enthused about it, but it is what it is: dark blue on a light blue field with an eight-pointed star. So, with my flag fetish, I went on Amazon and ordered a few.
