Obituary: Adolph E. Romanek

Adolph E. Romanek, 98, died at home on April 30, 2024. He was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Floodwood to Joseph and Mary Romanek. He married Bette Lou La Breche on July 18, 1953, in Cloquet.

Adolph grew up in Floodwood and served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star and was very proud of his service. He was a member of the local Korhonen-Hokkanen VFW Post 8299.

He worked for Conwed Corporation in Cloquet, and in maintenance for Superwood/Floodwood Industries, and was a lifelong cattle farmer. He and Bette loved to polka dance and were Texas snowbirds for many years.

Adolph was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 years, Bette; brothers, Louis, Herbert and Steve; sisters, Loretta Wayne, Theresa Tyrell and Rosalie Dub; and grandson Logan Johnson. He is survived by his children, Jeff (Deborah) Romanek, Todd (Barbara) Romanek, Kim (Robert) Dorr, Gail (Larry) Johnson, and Nancy (Mike) Clark; grandchildren Courtney, Thaddeus, Ashley, Ariane, Jason, Nial, Clay, Jennifer, Reed and Aleigha; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Faith, Shelby, Emmett, Jordan, Maddie, Easton, Jett, Rhyssa, Everly, Evander and Everson; and two great-great-grandchildren, Halstynn and Hattie.

Visitation and services were held over May 2 and 3 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Floodwood. Burial at the church with the Rev. Pio Antonio included military honors by the Floodwood Korhonen-Hokkanen VFW Post 8299. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care.
