Donald Kenneth Magnuson, 88, of Cloquet passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024, at New Perspective Assisted Living. He was born June 18, 1935, in Cloquet, the son of Carl and Ann (Lance) Magnuson.
Don graduated from Cloquet High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force.
He married Shirley Ann Watson on Sept. 6, 1958, in Barnum.
Don worked in the chemical lab for Potlatch until retiring. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served as usher, volunteered for lawn mowing for many years, and belonged to the Zioneers. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 172 for more than 20 years and was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club. Don and Shirley were members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cloquet.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy Magnuson; one brother, Robert Magnuson; and one sister, Betty O'Brien.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Robert (Peggy) Magnuson, Robin (Duane) Ahonen, Lisa (Dale) Halverson, Marc (Natalie) Magnuson, and Brian (Lisa) Magnuson; daughter-in-law, Melissa Magnuson; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; special niece, Barb Wirwille; and special nephew, Terry O'Brien.
Visitation and services were held Tuesday, May 6 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. An inurnment service at Maple Grove Cemetery included military honors presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Care.
The family thanks Moose Lake Village, New Perspective Assisted Living, and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful love, care and support they gave to Donald.
